Farewell WA #2

Around our place we have lots of these lovely birds called the New holland honeyeater. They are very quick and elusive to catch on camera. I have been attempting to get a good photo of them for a while and this has been the best so far. I often take photos of the different birds when I walk around the local lakes with Ethan. Go look over here, where I'm putting together a set of bird photos.

Illustration Friday - Sour


I'm loving this brown paper! I thought I'd try my hand at a pattern. White conte pencil and coloured pencil on brown recycled paper. And Photoshop.

I love to eat lemons. Yes, I know that's kind of wierd but it was actually the first "real food" that I ate as a baby. A relative thought it would be funny to see my reaction, I actually liked it and still eat them if they are garnish on my plate or drink!

Farewell WA #1

As I mentioned earlier, we are moving to Sydney at the end of this month. We are going to miss a lot in Western Australia, so I am doing a series of posts about my favourite aspects to living in Perth. One of those things is the flora! WA is famous for it's beautiful native flowers which spring out of the sandy soil. These are some beauties I haven't yet shown on my blog. We photographed them on our trip to Kalbarri last year. If you like these, there are more flowers in my flickr set. The pink ones were absolutely gorgeous with their fluffy petals! The white ones with orange centres are tiny tiny!



the nursery


Here are some pictures of the nursery. Steve painted the feature wall in "Romaine" by Dulux paints. The curtains were sewn in a weekend with a good deal of help from Steve's Mum. I made the tie backs using some leftover fabric from the quilt. I painted the seahorse and fish pictures. The quilt I made using 50's style fabrics. It hasn't been quilted yet. The canopy is from IKEA. I made the banner and my sister-in-law Louise made the teddy blanket.


Doors

For a while now I have wanted to scan these photos and post them on my blog. They are photos I took in Newtown, Sydney when I was studying Design. We were studying the relationship between the urban landscape and design.

The well travelled Rabbit

I've had a great week with my baby, having a baby is amazing. He has just started to giggle, it is so cute! Here are some pics of him in his suit and with his well travelled rabbit, gifts both from my sister - who hasn't met him yet.

This rabbit was born in China, went to America, was shipped to the Czech Republic, lived in a store in Prague, hitched a ride all the way to Scotland (via Germany) with my sister, and arrived in Australia in a yellow box.

Unwrapped!

The unwrapped Designer market was on Sunday. Here are some hasty photos I took at the event (Ethan didn't like the loud dance music, so I didn't have time to have a good look around). I miss a good market, when I was living in Sydney I visited Glebe market once a month. Less frequently I visited the Balmain, Rozelle and Bondi markets. Now I live in Perth and sadly this city doesn't seem to have so many quality markets to showcase arts, crafts and textiles. Maybe events like these will change that?
